Utilization of 1.5 tonnes of eLM Zero in 320m2 of paving stone
Storage of 3.6 tonnes of sequestered atmospheric CO2
Client: gewobau Rüsselsheim mbH
Concrete producer partner: F. C. Nüdling Betonelemente GmbH + Co. KG
Date: Summer 2024
Location: Rüsselsheim, Germany
For the residential buildings at Hasengrund 70-72 in Rüsselsheim, gewobau took a comprehensive approach, addressing both embodied and operational emissions. Following the energy-efficient renovation of the buildings, gewobau Rüsselsheim also redesigned the outdoor areas, incorporating significantly low-carbon paving stones.
To achieve this, gewobau Rüsselsheim used paving stones containing ecoLocked Materials®, expertly manufactured by our partner Nüdling Betonelemente. This project utilized 1.5 tonnes of eLM Zero, permanently storing over 3.6 tonnes of CO2.
Thanks to the inclusion of eLM Zero, our biochar-based admix materials for concrete, the paving stones achieved a 78% lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) compared to conventional pavers in Germany. This reduction was confirmed through life-cycle analysis and independently verified by third-party assessments.
The concrete products containing eLM Zero meet the requirements of DIN EN 1338 and 1339, making it an ideal solution for addressing the CO2 footprint of various concrete products, including pavers and slabs. By incorporating eLM Zero, we help concrete producers significantly lower the net carbon footprint of their products, enabling developers to make their projects more sustainable and climate-friendly.
